661FIXED presents the 4th edition of their If You’re Not First You’re Last, fixed gear and single speed Alley Cat Race, happening Sunday, April 17th 2011. If you want to join in on the fun, be at Tattoo Six (1820 L st.) before 3pm. There is a $5 entry fee to cover costs and bags & locks are required.

Sunday January 16th at Yokuts Park 10am – 2pm, the Ride Fast Crew will be hosting a bicycle swap meet. If you’ve been looking for a special part or accessory for your bike, you’re sure to find it here. Everyone is also welcome bring old or unwanted parts and accessories to sell or trade.

A raffle will be held with items donated by RFC sponsors; Action Sports, SSFTA, Snider’s Cyclery, and 661fixed . All proceeds from the raffle will go to Bike Bakersfield, our local cycling advocates.

This event is held as an effort to bring people in our cycling community together.

Bike Bakersfield is currently looking for riders to participate in the 38th Annual Christmas Parade Saturday Dec 11, 2010 at 9am. This year’s theme is Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. If you want to ride in the parade, you need to wear antlers and decorate your bike to look like a reindeer.

Bakersfield Cyclocross Race Course Pre-Ride – Dec 5, 2010

California State Shootout race director Sam Ames will be doing a race course pre-ride Sunday Dec 5 from 8am-10am. If you would like to attend, meet at Bakersfield’s Hart Park before 8am. Forecast calls for early am showers but sunshine during ride time. Bring clothes for all conditions.

2011 California Cyclocross State Championships – Jan 16, 2011

Race Director Sam Ames is bringing The Hardest Cyclocross Race In California to Bakersfield’s Hart Park, Jan 16, 2011. At this event, riders from Nor Cal and So Cal will battle it out to claim the the California State Cyclocross Championship. Whichever region has the most combined points at the end of the day will take home a six foot tall trophy and bragging rights for the rest of 2011. In addition to racing, there will be bagpipes, marching bands, beer / food, and a $5000 prize list.

The Course: Classic European style. Long pavement start, 2 road sections, the rest is dirt and grass. 2 Run Ups and a fly over ramp. Lots of room for passing. Course will be set up by 2pm Saturday, January 15th for pre-riding.

Entry: $30 for pre-registered racers, $35 race day ($25 and $30 for single speed). Additional races are just $15. Juniors with a USAC license race for free (non-licensed juniors race for free also but $10 is required to cover insurance costs).

Extra: Third Annual Bidart & Ablin Hill Climb Challenge. After all the races are finished, everyone is welcomed to enter the hill climb challenge to win $100. Rules are easy, be the first to the top of the moutnain (*with your full sized bike), ring the bell, collect $100.

Delonegha Trail Group MTB Ride – Saturday Dec 4, 2010

A group from the SSFTA will be riding 24 miles of single track on the Delonegha Trail Saturday Dec, 4th. If you would like to join in on the ride, meet at the Mesa Marin Chevron station on HWY 178 by 8:00 am. The trail head is only 25 minutes outside of Bakersfield in the Kern River Canyon. Prepare for about 3 hours of ride time (it will be cold).

A local road rider’s (Matt) bike was stolen on Tuesday July 27, 2010 near Garces High School.

Kernville BMX Track and Trail Park

Our neighbors up in Kernville have been working very hard the last few months. Thanks to a lot of help from the community, the Kernville Bike Park is now a reality. Boasting 7 acres of cycling nirvana including a NBL BMX track (mountain bikes are allowed too), 200 feet of pump track, dirt Jumps (beginner – expert), Trials zones, Skills/stunt zones (beginner – expert) and a really fun single track loop with beginner skills and offshoots with intermediate and advanced skills/stunts.

Grand Opening celebration and festivities are planned for August 21st. Maybe we can get a few carpools headed up there from Bakersfield.

Group ride to Bakersfield Blaze Game – Friday July 16

Local rider Ramon Jacquez will be throwing first pitch at the Bakersfield Blaze vs. the Rancho Cucamanga Quakes baseball game on Friday July 16th. 661Fixed.com is organizing a group ride to the game to support Ramon, enjoy America’s sport, and some hot dogs. Game starts at 7:30 at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Tickets are between $5 and $9. If you would like to join in on the group ride to the game, meet in front of Starbucks at The Valley Plaza before 6pm. It will be a casual pace ride to the ballpark.

SSFTA Monthly Meeting – June 15, 2010

The SSFTA will be having their monthly meeting Tuesday May 18th, at Ellis Island Pizza Company (formerly known as Cataldo’s Pizza) on Stockdale Highway and Real Road (in the Wild West Shopping Plaza).
This month the board will be discussing proposals for the direction of the club. The room is reserved for SSFTA from 6 pm. Come hang out and eat at 6, down to business at 7.
