This came to us via Matt Gunnel, SoCal High School Cycling League Director. The Bakersfield meeting will be happening July 6th at Bike Bakersfield headquarters (1708 Chester Ave) starting at 7:00 pm.

My name is Matt Gunnell and I’m the Director of the SoCal High School Cycling League. Just wanted to give you a heads up that we’re working mountain bike racing into high schools throughout SoCal as a high school sport.

We just finished up our second season with State Champs on Sunday in Grass Valley where nearly 500 high school mountain bike racers from the NorCal and SoCal Leagues competed on one of the sweetest courses ever. The SoCal League finished its second year going great guns! We doubled in size (105 racers in year 1 and 205 in year 2). We added our first Santa Barbara and our first San Luis Obispo clubs this year (just getting a toe hold in the counties). I believe Kern County has a LOT of potential both for kids and prospective venues.

This will be very beneficial to our youth in Kern County, let’s all make it out to this meeting and show our support for the future of cycling in Bakersfield.
