The following is a summary of road closures for the Stage 5 Finish of the 2010 Amgen Tour of California at Bakersfield College on May 20, the Bakersfield Sports Foundation announced today. All measures have been taken to minimize impact on residents and travelers in and around the finish venue. Traffic control will be managed by the Bakersfield Police Department, Kern County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol with assistance from Tour of California course marshals and volunteer course marshals.
Roads impacted by closures will not be open to any vehicle traffic during the times listed. Spectator foot traffic is anticipated and will be permitted at certain areas along the route until just before the cyclists arrive. Emergency service vehicles will have full access to residences and businesses along the routes to respond to any emergencies that may arise.
Roads affected by closures:
May 19 – 10:00 a.m. to May 20 at 10:00 p.m.
Panorama Drive between Haley Street and Mt. Vernon Avenue
May 20 – 9 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m.
Panorama Drive west to Bucknell Street
Panorama Drive east to Eton Street
Haley south to first alley south of Panorama Drive
Mt. Vernon Avenue south to Church Street
May 20 – Approximately 1 to 4:30 p.m.
East bound Alfred Harrell Highway from Panorama Drive/Mt. Vernon Avenue to Fairfax Road
West bound Alfred Harrell Highway from Hart Park to Panorama Drive/Haley Street
Fairfax Road from Camino Grande Drive to Alfred Harrell Highway
China Grade Loop from Round Mountain Road to Alfred Harrell Highway
In addition to the above closures, the northeast parking lot at Bakersfield College will be closed beginning at 10 p.m. on May 18.
Free public parking will be available in the southwest student parking lot located on the corner of University Avenue and Haley Street on a first come, first serve basis. Circuit spectators may be able to park along Camino Grande Drive near the Kart Track and east on the County Dump Road before 1 p.m. Spectators are asked to carpool and arrive early to avoid traffic delays or parking issues. Bike Bakersfield will host a free bike valet on-site for spectators who wish to ride their bike to the event and secure it for the day. Spectators who plan to drive and park should note all applicable city and county parking codes will be enforced on streets adjacent to the event.
